Mumbai is the economic and financial heart of India, but also its cultural flagship city as the home of its famous cinema industry, Bollywood. It is also a market with a keen taste for high-end wines and premium spirits.
MUMBAI, THE FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL ‘CAPITAL’
Mumbai, or Bombay, is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra. A metropolis with a population in excess of 12 million, the country’s most densely populated city is also its commercial capital, generating 5% of GDP, 25% of industrial production, 40% of maritime trade and 70% of capital transactions.
A base for many Indian and multinational companies, the city is also globally renowned for its cinema industry, known as Bollywood (the contraction of Bombay and Hollywood).
