New records at the 159th Hospices de Beaune

On 17 November, at the 159th auction at the famous 15th-century Hospices de Beaune, 589 barrels of wine were sold for a total of €12,013,100, an average price of €20,396 per barrel.

This final sum was less than the €14m raised last year; there were 30% fewer barrels offered but the average selling price was higher.

Prices rose by 29.5% compared to 2018; up 32.6% for red wines and 27.1% for white wines.

The Pièce des Présidents, a lot sold for charity, was this year in the form of a Corton grand cru ‘Les Bressandes’. It was sold to a Brazilian buyer for €260,000.
